If there is one single feeling we wish our office to convey, it is that we care about our patients. We feel that two-way communication between patients and staff is crucial to maintaining the caring environment. We need to hear from you about the things that make your visits with us a good experience and anything you would like to see changed. We also want to communicate to you the reasons behind our policies and procedures. Every policy and procedure in our practice has been established to serve all of our patients in the best and fairest way possible. But we realize that the best intentioned policies can be misunderstood unless the reasons behind them are explained.
We reserve our after-school hours for short appointments. In this way, we can accomodate the greatest number of patients during this prime time. However, the large number of school-age children in any orthodonic practice, including ours, makes it impossible to see them all between 3:30 p.m and 5:00 p.m. To distribute these afternoon appointments fairly, we assign every patient some morning appointments.
Our initial appointments for orthodontic treatment, which are for longer periods of time, are scheduled in the morning. This is a quieter time in the office and the patient has the opportunity to develop a rapport and the beginning of a relationship with Dr. Litt and our staff.
Our practice philosophy is directed towards obtaining the highest quality, longest lasting results possible. This includes the ideal fit and function of all teeth and a proper relationship between all of the facial bones (not just straight front teeth).
The removal of permanent teeth is something we try to avoid. In the majority of patients, we try to encourage skeletal and jaw development (instead of extracting teeth), therefore we are able to accomodate all the teeth. However, because of certain biological or esthetic factors, in some situations it is necessary to consider the extraction of some permanent teeth in order to achieve optimum results. We are careful not to prematurely start treatment. Optimal timing keeps a child's treatment to a minimum, avoiding excessive treatment time. However, there are many patients who will benefit from two stages of treatment. Often an early interceptive stage can decrease the complexity, duration and cost of the total orthodontic treatment.
